Koala Moredo, L.Ac., Dipl.O.M.
Koala Moredo is co-founder and co-owner of On Point Acupuncture,
Inc. He is a licensed acupuncturist within the State of California
(L.Ac.), and nationally certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal
Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture
and Herbal Medicine (Dipl.O.M.). He specializes in the treatment
of pain and sports medicine, with an emphasis on injury prevention
and rehabilitation.
Koala earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in American Literature
at the University of California at Santa Cruz. During his studies
at UCSC he completed over 200 hours in the Holistic Health Program
where he was introduced to massage, acupressure, and western herbology.
He earned his masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
at Five Branches Institute.
In Santa Cruz as well as in China he studied Channel Theory under
Dr. Frank He. The style of acupuncture based on this theory employs
acupuncture points above and below an injury (and commonly uses
electrical stimulation between the points) to stimulate rapid healing
in injured tissues. He continued post-graduate training in the
treatment of chronic pain under Dr. Richard Tan in the use of The
Balance Method. The Balance Method involves stimulating acupuncture
points away from an injured area so as to avoid local pain and
inflammation while encouraging muscle release through distal reflex
connections. Koala also trained with Dr. Fred Lerner and Neal Miller
in orthopedic acupuncture diagnosis and treatment techniques.
The various styles and acupuncture techniques Koala is trained
in allow him to successfully treat a wide array of pain conditions,
whether a person has an acute injury, sports injury, industrial
injury or chronic pain. With each case, Koala uses the form of
acupuncture that best fits an individual’s unique circumstance,
pain levels and goals for recovery.
Koala has also been highly active in the politics and development
of the profession of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
While still in school at Five Branches Institute, he was national
student organization founder and president for the American Association
of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He also served for two years
on the Board of Directors of the California State Oriental Medical
Association. Koala is guided in these endeavors by his belief that
the medicine to which he has dedicated his life can help everyone
to not only prevent and heal physical, mental, emotional and spiritual
injury, but also to reach for and achieve personal goals and aspirations.
